Our Commitment
As a member of the Canadian archival community, Charlotte County Archives recognizes the harms done to First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples by archival practices that privilege the Eurocolonial experience, and the resulting colonial archival record that perpetuates racist myths, colonial ideology, and discrimination against Indigenous peoples. We are committed to building equitable relationships with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis governments, communities, and individuals, acknowledging their unique cultural knowledge frameworks, and upholding their inalienable rights to own and access their truths, memories, and data.
Resources at CCA
At Charlotte County Archives we envision a future where all archives—through their theories, practices, and impact—respect Indigenous sovereignty and self-determination. To that end, we are creating in our facilities a hub for learning the truths about our shared histories, treaties, land claims, and reconciliation. We currently have a growing binder in our reference library that will expand over time into a collection of books, articles, maps, and other resources supporting the contextualized research of Indigenous documentary heritage within our collections.
